MU students raise funds for Haiti through concert

Two students from the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU) hope to raise funds for Haiti, though a concert held this Thursday.

Kat Hedstrom, the founder of the project, thought that a concert would be a fun and wise way to get the Columbia community involved, especially the MU students who love music.

The founders are seniors from Missouri School of Journalism.

About Celebrate the Dream program in Parkade Elementary School

Parkade is the neighbourhood i just got assigned to
for my neighbourhood beat.

And though it's a small and quiet place,
it's an interesting and beautiful place too

With treasures to be sought.

The kids at Parkade Elementary School are really adorable and friendly.

I love them!

About True/False Film Fest in Columbia

The annual True/False Film Fest is a huge event for film lovers in Columbia. Many documentaries made by independent filmmakers are screened at the festival.

This year the event is going to be from Feb 25 to 28 at several cinemas in town, and today the organisers planned a mini Boot Camp to help newcomers learn more about what's coming, and how to get their tickets.

Here's the photo of an organiser sharing tips with the audience.

Well it was my first assignment at Columbia, and i was pretty excited about it. I met a few nice people who helped me out.

And i realised reporting in Columbia is about the same as reporting in Singapore.

Just that over here transportation is more difficult than in Singapore, and so there is a limit to the number of stories i am able to do.

But the style of reporting here is so much different than Singapore. Many stories in Singapore are too factual, or in fact boring. I started off with a factual reporting of the event, but later Elliot, the assistance city editor here talked to me about my story.

And we changed the structure: starting with an anecdote.

It is much better now!

I wanna be a good writer who tells great stories, and not just reports stories.

Here's the link to my first big story at The Missourian!

Note: I hope to write more in the days to come!

Recently i wrote about the huge chocolate fountain
